! Zoals ook al gezegd bij het bericht van geheel Scandinavië kan het enige tijd duren voordat wij er profijt van hebben. Het duurt namelijk altijd enige tijd voordat een systeembouwer, zoals VDO Dayton, deze database ook op zijn CD's / DVD's heeft staan. With the completion of a full detailed coverage map of France, NAVTEQ has achieved the milestone of driven verification of the country's roadways. The full detailed map of France is currently available to NAVTEQ’s business customers for integration into consumer applications.*
NAVTEQ's full detailed coverage map of France now includes:
* virtually the whole French population
* 1.4 million kilometres of roads
* all 96 départements France comprises
* an area of 544,000 square kilometres of land, including 36,600 towns and villages
* more than 324,000 Points of Interest including hotels, service stations, railway stations, airports, places of cultural interest and sports facilities.
To achieve complete detailed coverage of France by the end of 2004, the last eighteen months have been a significant challenge to the teams on the ground who have driven approximately 1.5 million kilometres of road network to field verified 80 new départements and create a state of the art detailed map of 29,600 new villages. France's road network – from the highways to the residential streets in small villages – have been driven and field verified, and the data collected has been through NAVTEQ's rigorous quality assurance process.
NAVTEQ drives the roads in order to collect up to 160 attributes of the road network, which are used to create NAVTEQ's highly accurate and navigable maps in both consumer and enterprise solutions. Some of the attributes include: road category (a classification from 1 to 5 to distinguish motorways and ring roads from residential roads), average traffic speed (calculation of the best route is performed using this criterion), traffic direction (turn restrictions, continuous white line or one-way traffic) and road surface quality (the shortest journey never includes roads which are unsuitable or difficult for vehicles). In addition, all road names and road signs are verified and recorded in the database.
